My Approach

It’s daunting to search for the right help when you find yourself struggling to even manage emotions or make sense of your thoughts. You may be in the midst of a life transition or carrying the deep pain of loss, whether that of a loved one or an old way of life. You may find yourself numbing or distancing from your feelings and thoughts- the best survival strategy may be just protecting yourself from what’s beneath the surface.

The hardest part of counselling are those first tentative steps that lead you to send that first email or bring you to the counsellor’s door. We need to feel grounded with and connected to our counsellors. We need to able to trust our counsellor to hold and help unpack our stories. My hope is that I can provide the warmth, safety, and understanding you need to access those most tender parts of your life.

My approach is drawn from trauma informed, mind and body-based approaches with a specialization in grief and loss. With each session I seek to foster safety and trust within the counselling relationship and, collaboratively, untangle all the ways you find yourself stuck- whether due to the emotions, thoughts, or the physical reactions you have to the threats you experience in the world.

“I will not die an unlived life
I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire
I choose to inhabit my days,
To allow my living to open me,
To make me less afraid,
More accessible,
To loosen my heart
Until it becomes a wing,
A torch, a promise...”
